Mix ½ cup Borax in Warm Water:
You need to have one gallon of warm water, not boiling water. Boiled water will ruin the colored clothes. However, once you get one bucket of warm water, you can add half a cup of borax, then mix it properly.
One-gallon warm water might be enough if you have a few colored clothes. If you have different clothes and need more water, add the borax accordingly. The calculation is simple, half cup borax for one-gallon warm water.
Damp the Clothes:
After making the mixture of borax and warm water, you need to damp the colored clothes for about 30 to 60 minutes. The time depends on the dirt. If there is too much dirt on the colored clothes, you have to wait for about an hour.
Let the others soak the entire water. Then the borax will start to work and bring all the dirt from the clothes. You need to remember that different colored clothes might damage each other.
If the color is not solid and they come out with water, it will damage the other.
Laundering:
When the time is over, and you’re sure about the cleaning, you can use the washing machine to wash those clothes thoroughly. It will then be ready for the iron. If you have different colored clothes, try to wash them separately as you did with the borax.
